AAA: You like being social, but you prefer alone time. You are a kuhli loach!

Kuhli loaches are small freshwater fish and dwell at the bottom of slow streams, swamps, and calm rivers on the island of Java in Indonesia, other islands in Malaysia, and the coasts of Thailand. They are fairly shy fish and hide in caves during the day, spending most of their nights swimming around. They like to spend time with other loaches and cuddle up in tight spaces. They are typically 3-4 inches in length and can live up to 10 years!

AAB: You are confident, but people wouldn’t think that until they get to know you. You are a honey gourami!

Honey gouramis are small freshwater fish that live in slow rivers in northern India and Bangladesh. They are gentle and work well with other fish in a tank, and can often be seen exploring their tanks with curiosity. During the breeding season, honey gouramis can become territorial. These fish grow up to 2-2.5 inches in length and typically live between 4 and 8 years!

ABA: You are a hard worker and enjoy rewarding yourself after getting something done. You are a Japanese pufferfish!

Japanese pufferfish are saltwater fish native to the Japanese islands. They are known for their focus and sand art, where they spend time printing large geometric circles into the sea floor using their fins. They decorate the edges of their work with small shells and broken coral. They are fairly independent, and survive better in the wild with a lifespan of up to 12 years, versus the 5 years in captivity. They can grow to be between 15 to 30 inches and are extremely poisonous. 

ABB: You are more competitive than people realize, but it’s all in good fun. You are an oscar fish!

Oscar fish are freshwater fish with big and friendly personalities. They are often compared to dogs as they recognize and greet owners when they return. They love to eat, can be trained to eat from a hand, and follow you as you move past the tank. Oscar fish are also dramatic and will sulk by laying at the bottom of the tank if their plants and decor are moved. They are found all over South America, average around 14 inches in size, and can live to be between 15 and 20 years old!

BBB: You are competitive and people know that. You are a red devil cichlid!

Red devil cichlids are very intelligent but aggressive freshwater fish that live in volcanic lakes in Central America. They can recognize owners, push around their tank decor, and don’t typically get along with tank mates. Red devil cichlids can grow to around 13 inches and are difficult to maintain due to their aggressivity. They can live to be between 10-15 years old!

BBA: I’m really into contributing to my community and doing my part. You are a corydora! 

Corydoras are freshwater fish that live in South America, from Trinidad to Peru and Argentina. They like living and huddling in groups of 6 or more fish to feel safe, and typically swim peacefully at the bottom of streams and creeks. They can recognize owners when they walk by their tank and like to eat…a lot. They are between 1 and 3 inches long and typically live between 5 to 10 years, though some can reach 20 years!

BAB: You love love love gift giving. It’s your fav! You are a shrimp goby!

Shrimp gobies are saltwater fish that have a special symbiotic relationship with pistol shrimps. They live in coral reefs around the world and shallow seabeds, and spend most of their days guarding the tunnels built by the pistol shrimp. They are very communicative and send signals to alert the pistol shrimp of danger through fin movements. They are bold but very cautious, and grow to be between 2 and 4 inches.  

BAA: You love love love receiving gifts. It’s your fav! You are a pistol shrimp!

Pistol shrimps are small shrimps with poor eyesight that live in warm shallow reefs. They have a symbiotic relationship with shrimp gobies, and typically spend their days digging out small tunnels in the sands. They have long sensitive antennas that detect signals from the shrimp goby, and snap their claws to communicate with other shrimp. They are fairly defensive, and only tolerate their designated shrimp goby. They grow to be between 2 and 5 inches.
